This season’s Oklahoma State Cowboys have just six upperclassmen on their squad and will have to rely on a bevy of underclassmen to help get them through the season.  It doesn’t hurt that Coach Travis Ford had his best recruiting class since coming to Oklahoma.  Ford lured F LeBryan Nash out of Texas.  Nash is a consensus five star prospect that has ranked as high as No. 4.

Coach Ford is also high on the defensive side of the ball and have relied heavily on it while building their early 5-1 record.  The team is expecting Marshall Moses to bounce back from last year’s slump.

“Our defense is giving us a chance to win. We’ve got to start rewarding ourselves on the offensive end,” head coach Travis Ford told the press.

A SHORT HISTORY

The Oklahoma State Men's Basketball team first came into existence in 1908 and had limited success but it wasn't until the 1934 season, when the school hired on Henry Iba as the teams new Head Coach. He would stay on for 36 seasons and would finally retire after the 1970 season. Iba would also double as the Athletic Director. He formed teams that practiced a man to man defense with team flow that has become known as the "Swinging Gate" defense that is still employed by teams around the world today.

The 2009/10 OK State Cowboys had to rely on a number of underclassmen as the Cowboys returned only one senior, Guard Obi Munonelo, five Juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen. Head Coach Travis Ford will be completing his second year as the Cowboys coach.

Coach Ford led his team to a respectable 22-11 (9-7 in the Big 12) and entered the NCAA Tournament as the 7th seed. In the first round, the Cowboys met the #10 seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, losing 64-59 and were ousted out of the tourney. Look for Coach Ford to have a good recruiting year and have his team ready to get back to the big dance next season.
